Gretna High School Beta Club members Xander Birchfield, Eden Ilconich, Brendan Myers and Kailey Wertz attended the noon meeting and presented the program.  These rising Gretna 10th graders had earned their membership in the National Beta Club Honor Society through excellent grades and community service.  The four also formed the Beta Build Team for Gretna and after placing first in the state competition in Hampton this past February went on to compete in the national tournament winning 3rd place.  Their presentation reflected the spirit of cooperation, ingenuity, and creativeness that went into their winning projects.

Chatham Rotary Park

Chatham Rotarians met on a hot, muggy and rainy afternoon at Chatham Rotary Park to spruce up the park and clear out overgrown bushes, shrubs and grassy areas. Phil Mauger, Bill Black, Alisa Davis, Chris Lund and his daughter, Molly Holmes, Ted and Marty Brunning, Joe Rogers, Lisa Tuite and Walter Sullivan worked hard until the rain drove the crew inside Reid Street Gallery for great snacks and munchies provided by Gentleman's Ridge.  Even with all the hard work, a great time was had by all and Rotarians are looking forward to a more extensive remodel and upgrade to the Chatham Rotary Park in the near future. (Pictured below: The Cleanup Crew, Chris Lund & Joe Rogers)

Check Presentation

Chatham Rotary President Elect Alisa Davis presented Chatham Rotarian and Director of the Pittsylvania County Library, Lisa Tuite, a check for $200 in support of the Friends of the Library Program.  The donation from fellow Rotarians was in response to a presentation about summer reading programs at the library. The Friends of the Library support the library with advocacy and financial support for the many programs offered by the library, including summer reading programs, crafts and other events for children and adults. Thanks to the support from our Friends and the generosity of groups like the Chatham Rotary Club and its individual members, most programs at the library are free or very low cost, reducing or eliminating and barriers to participation by all citizens.

Community Workdays

The Chatham Rotary Club has been the recipient of (2) Rotary District Grants this year, which are enabling us to make major improvements to Elba Park in Gretna, as well and installing a dog fence at the new Pet Center in Chatham!

We are looking for some help in general clean-up and landscaping from anyone in the community who would like to show up and lend a hand.  The upcoming work days are as follows:

Saturday, April 21st -- 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., both locations (Elba Park in Gretna and Chatham Pet Center)
Tuesday, April 24th -- 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. -- both locations
Saturday, April 28th -- 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. -- both locations

Please bring work gloves, shovels/rakes, and a joyful spirit!  Hope to see you there as we all work TOGETHER to make our community a better place.

Paul will be traveling 4/21, so Chris Lund will be "the Captain" that day.
