Luncheon Meeting 9-11-18

Chatham Rotary members were treated to a presentation by Ms. Angela Rigney, Director of Career, Technical, and Adult Education for Pittsylvania County Schools. She shared some of the wonderful things that are happening in the Career and Technical Education programs and the successes the programs are having.  Her presentation covered some of the newest program pathways, partnerships, and a good overview of her division.  Angela highlighted the scope of the new Career Connections program and focused on the collaboration between Danville Community College, Danville City Schools, business and industry and the school system in the design and implementation of the program.  It was interesting to note that an indicator of their success on high SOL scores in all subjects for CTE Completers is because of the relevance that Career and Technical Education programs has in applying these skills.

Lunch Meeting: September 4, 2018

The Chatham Rotary Club was treated to a dramatic reading by Rotarian Ted Bruning.  The reading was The Story of the Widow’s Son:  A Story With Two Endings by Mary Lavin, a mid-twentieth century Irish author.  The meanings of the story are significant and result from every listening individual’s personal interpretation of the words and story being told and will leave a lasting impression of each Rotarian.
